2 Things Your Laundry Room is Missing

Every laundry room has a washer and dryer, some even have the coveted sink.  But does yours have a Closet and a Folding counter?  Laundry rooms are quickly becoming more popular on Pinterest.  It is another space that used to get overlooked, but now has made center stage in the home. Laundry rooms are a necessity just like any other room.  Therefore, it is important to make your laundry room as productive as possible.  We know there will be many night, mornings, or weekends, when the laundry will be staring us in the face, waiting for us to wash, sort, fold, and put away. Incorporating a closet to hang your clothes and folding counter will make your Laundry Room more Productive.

Today, I will share with you, how we created a laundry room in our former garage.  When we moved into this home, the laundry hookups were downstairs, in the garage.  However, we decided to convert the garage into finished, livable square footage, and built a 3 car shop in our backyard. This area quickly became our laundry room, closet, and storage area.  It was one big space, next to the garage, therefore, we built a wall and door to separate the space.  On the other side of the wall where the garage was, first became our master bedroom, then a year later, my office and craft room. I love having a large rectangular office and craft room.

How To Build a Folding Counter

My husband, didn’t like the white pipe that was running horizontal across the far wall, therefore, he built a frame for a counter aka folding station.

Then he sheetrock it.  It turned out great, because now the pipes and wires are hidden.  This is our new folding station.

Then we added a piece of wood on top for the counter top

Painted the wood with a white primer, to lock out moisture and make it long lasting, then added a vinyl adhesive roll over it, to make it look pretty

Add Closet Shelving

Since, the garage became our master suite, we needed to add a closet.  Putting the closet in the laundry room, became the obvious place.  We added closet shelving from Lowes and fabric containers from Wal-Mart. See our other post on how to make your own custom closet.
