Tutorial Remove Wallpaper with a Steamer

Do you have wallpaper in your home, that no longer your style, or Never was? Many homes that were built before 2000, have wallpaper.  Modern homes do not use wallpaper, or very little for an accent wall.  Here is  a Tutorial to show you how to remove wallpaper with a steamer.

Today, I invite you into my Master Bedroom.  This home was built in 1992 and had A LOT of wallpaper.  Some rooms had several layers of wallpaper and a wallpaper border.  The wallpaper was rose colored with peach hearts and beige flowers. The doors, baseboards, and window frames were all painted beige.  Each window had rose colored metal mini blinds.  Needless to say, I am NOT a fan of rose or peach.  You all know what my favorite color is, it’s Turquoise!

After we removed all of the wallpaper, we painted all of the doors, baseboards, and window frames, white.  My husband picked out a lighter more modern looking beige.  We also removed all of the carpet and replaced it with a slightly shag carpet called Frieze.

Supplies:

  1. Steamer
  2. ⅓ cup of lemon juice
  3. 2 cups white vinegar
  4. 2 cups water
  5. scoring tool
  6. bucket of water
  7. gloves
  8. goggles
  9. cookie sheet

 Tutorial:

Mix all of the liquids in a large bowl and pour into a spray bottle.

First, spray the wallpaper with the chemical free ingredients. The liquid needs to absorb into the wallpaper for a few minutes Before you Use the Steamer.

After, you have sprayed the wallpaper, pour hot water into the steamer’s container.

Then plug in the steamer.

Next, use the scoring tool and start scoring the wallpaper.

This will help break up the layers of wallpaper.

Once steam starts to come out of the steamer, then  hold the steamer up to the moist, scored wallpaper.

Hold the steamer there for about 30 seconds.  After 30 seconds, remove the steamer and “test” the wallpaper.

Lay the steamer on the cookie sheet.  With your gloves on, gently peel the wallpaper away from the wall.  If it comes off smoothly, then repeat instructions.

If it does Not come off smoothly, Score, Spray, Remove, Peel, and Patch.

It’s not the fanciest room.  I wish I had white furniture and a different wall color, maybe some turquoise 😉 but hubby wouldn’t go for white furniture or turquoise walls.  Overall, I added some pictures of us from our wedding and engagement (far wall). I also bought a sign that says, “Always Kiss Me Goodnight” (far wall).  Then I added a vinyl sticker quote on the wall, that says, “Love You Always, Love You Still, Always Have, Always Will” (above bed).  I also printed out a black and white picture of us and glued it onto blue card stock that I cut into circles and then framed them in a black shadow box (above bed).
