5 Easy Fabric Decor Projects

Having a hard time finding budget friendly decor?  Lack sewing skills?  No problem, here are 5 Easy Fabric Decor Projects.  Before I had my turquoise-owl obsession, I was crazy for Pink, Green, ladybugs, dragon flies, butterflies, and flowers.  Hey, I have 3 girls, what do you expect!? And I had a slight fabric obsession.  What can I say, there are so many to choose from.  I have the same problem with cardstock.  Anywhoo. I created 5 Easy Fabric Decor Projects:  1. Curtains, 2. Chair Cushion, 3. Lamp Shade, 4. Bench Cushion, and 5. Fleece Blanket.  Note: All of this decor took less than an hour to make.

Flower Roman Shade

I bought some Roman shades for this bay window, and realized that they were too short, by about 6″.  So I decided I could add some fabric to cover up the shortage.  At first I just added some to the bottom, and thought it looked too plain and out of place. That’s when I decided I needed to add some to the top. I think the look turned out very well.  And I made them all in about an hour with a glue gun!  First, I added Velcro to the back to attach onto the Roman Shades. I bought the Roman Shades at Wal-Mart, but my size is no longer sold there.  I bought the other supplies at Hobby Lobby.

Supplies for Curtains:

  1. Roman shades
  2. Fabric
  3. Glue gun/glue stick
  4. Velcro

Flower Chair Cushion

Since I made the curtains, I wanted to make a matching chair cushion as well.  Since, I am NOT a seamstress and do NOT know how to make a chair cushion pattern on my own, I cheated and found a used chair cushion at a yard sale or thrift store.  I brought it home washed it and covered it with my pretty fabric, using my handy dandy glue glue and added some buttons and matching ribbon, to tie the cushion to the back of the chair. And Wallah!

Supplies for Chair Cushion:

  1. Chair cushion
  2. Fabric
  3. Glue gun/glue sticks
  4. Ribbon
  5. Buttons

Flower Lamp Shade

And last but not least, I made a cute little lamp shade, out of the same fabric of course.  I am a little OCD and like things to match.  LOL!  I cheated with this one too and bought a plain lampshade and lamp stand, covered it with fabric and ribbon using the handy dandy glue gun.

Supplies for Lamp Shade:

  1. Lamp shade
  2. Lamp stand
  3. Fabric
  4. Ribbon
  5. Glue gun/glue sticks

Owl Bench Cushion

Ahhhh….the Owls! This is my fabric girlie owl fabric that I have EVER seen.  So once again I took two old King pillows, and I cut one in half.  That made the perfect length for this chest.  I even made the cushion double sided.  So once again I am NOT a seamstress, I just laid the fabric out on the table and put the pillows on top of the fabric and added 2″ of fabric on all 4 sides for hemming.  Once I had the fabric measured and cut, I turned the fabric inside out and sewed the fabric together on 3 sides, leaving the short side open, so I could stuff the pillows back into it, BEFORE sewing up the 4th side.

Supplies for Bench Cushion:

  1. King pillow (2)
  2. Fabric
  3. Sewing machine
  4. Thread

Ladybug Fleece Blanket

This is a super easy DIY project. It takes some time, and make sure you cut it on a table rather than the floor like I did, because cutting takes the most time and your back will get sore from bending over.  Also, invite one of your children to help tie the blankets together.

Supplies for Fleece Blanket:

  1. 2 pieces of fleece, any size you’d like, but make sure they are both the same size.
  2. Fabric Scissors

Tutorial:

  1. Lay two pieces of fabric on top of each other. Outside facing out.
  2. Cut out a 6 x 6″ square at all 4 corners, see pattern below.
  3. Then cut 1 x 6″ slits on all 4 sides.
  4. Gather 1 piece of each fabric, keeping the pieces together, tie one slip knot.
